My name is Sofia Parastatidou, and I am the founder of SQE Study, Training and Coaching – a learning platform to help you prepare for the SQE (Solicitor’s Qualifying Exam).
What is the SQE?
To become a solicitor in England and Wales, you must pass the SQE– a centralised assessment which is designed to ensure that all solicitors meet consistent and high professional standards.
How is the SQE divided?
The SQE is made up of two parts:
SQE1 – which is a single best answer multiple choice exam testing functioning legal knowledge and
SQE2 – which assesses the applicaton of legal knowledge through practical legal skills
What qualifications do you need to qualify as a solicitor?
To qualify and be eligible for admission as a solicitor in England and Wales you must:
- Hold a degree in any subject (or equivalent qualification or have relevant work experience)
- Pass both the SQE1 and SQE2 assessments (unless exempt)
- Complete two years of Qualifying Work Experience (QWE)
- Meet the SRA’s character and suitability requirements
How much experience do we have?
Our Founder and Head Trainer/Coach, Sofia Parastatidou, was admitted as a solicitor and barrister in NSW, Australia in 1991 and has been a Solicitor/Barrister of the High Court of Australia since September 2004.
She re-qualified and was admitted as a solicitor of England and Wales on 1 December 1998 and is a practising solicitor – Managing Partner and CEO of Globalex International Lawyers.
Sofia has been training foreign lawyers to re-qualify in England and Wales since 2012 following the introduction of the QLTS (Qualifed Lawyers Transfer Scheme). The QLTS was replaced by the SQE which became the compulsory exam for ALL persons wishing to qualify solicitors on the roll in England and Wales.
